Sirjana College of Fine Arts

Historical Background

Sirjana College of Fine Arts (SCoFA) was established in 2001 in affiliation with Tribhuvan University. The emergence of this College has come as an outcome of a long debate – and with a common aspiration. Then it was with a noble vision shared by a group of select prominent artists and the art lovers of Nepal. And today, it has resulted, and become a matter of pride and privilege being the first and the only Fine Arts College in Nepal – established exclusively by the Art Community. It functions as a non-profit and community-based College and is being run under the set courses according to the prescribed curriculum framework of TU. Today, with great pride, it stands as premier and a leading institution of Fine Arts in Nepal.

In its initial years (AD 2001-2003) the College was granted permission to run the Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) in Fine Arts under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of TU. Later, three-years Bachelor’s program was introduced in the academic year of 2003-04.

As per the decision made by the University to phase out the PCL from the academic session 2010-011, the College was entitled to commence the plus two (+2) level programs in affiliation with the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), Nepal. At present, the new courses on the Higher Secondary level in Fine Arts offer Painting, Applied Arts, Sculpture, History of Arts, Music, and Dance. Regarding the Music course, the subject has been included in compliance with the provision made for the previous PCL of TU.

As TU initiated four-years Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a new curriculum from the academic session 2012-013, Graphic Communications, Music, and Dance were also added and introduced accordingly by the College at the BFA level, since then. The addition of Traditional Nepali Painting and Traditional Nepali Sculpture was also made in the curriculum of BFA as the major subjects.

The evidence of strong academic excellence of the College can be traced through the remarkable passing percentage. The outstanding result of the College also signifies the quality of education it imparts. Its graduates have topped the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of TU several times. Likewise, a remarkable number of Higher Secondary graduates have successfully been able to enroll themselves in the Bachelor degree programs at various art institutions of India under the Indian Government’s scholarship program and abroad.

At SCoFA, the students have an excellent opportunity to pursue a career and to become a leader. It's not just about meeting the potential, it's also about exceeding it. The academic excellence of the students here is well testified by the results of every annual examination held by TU.
