Strategic Plan 2076-2080 B.S.: Sirjana College of Fine Arts

INTRODUCTION

Background 

Sirjana College of Fine Arts is located at Uttar Dhoka Sadak, Lazimpart, Kathmandu Metropolitan city-2, Nepal. It was established in August 24, 2001 in affiliation with TU to impart strong academic program in the fields of Fine Arts. A group of committed artists and the art teachers’ collectively created an alternative learning platform for higher education. As a result, it is a first ever college of Fine Arts established by community. 

The academic journey of college started with Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) in Fine Arts with only ten students in the year 2001. Today there are …number of students pursuing their higher education program at two different levels: courses of Fine Arts at the Higher secondary level with major on - Painting, Applied Arts, Sculpture, History of Arts and Music; and at Bachelor level offering major on- Painting, Graphic Communications, Sculpture, Traditional Nepali Painting, Traditional Nepali Sculpture, Music (Instrumental and Vocal) and, Dance (Kathak and Bharat Naatyam). 

It aims to place students (local and foreign students) at forefront and offers them modern as well as traditional art opportunities to develop innovative and multifaceted art professionalism. A dedicated team of experienced, pioneer and awarded teachers are employing diverse teaching techniques and approaches to support students acquire the necessary knowledge and skill for their artistic journey and pull off their fullest potential of cultural creativity. To enhance the students’ experience and capacity to present their work, the college has often been organizing art workshops, exhibitions, symposiums, events and advocacy campaigns in collaboration with national and international communities. 

In general, the team sprit has been playing a major role for effective implementation of the educational activities under Sirjana College of Fine Arts. The college management committee operates and coordinates with the Internal Management Committee, Department Heads, Faculty Members as well as non-teaching staff at the college to impart strong academic program. As a result, the college has succeeded to achieve 95% passing percentage in average for last 18 years and also have set the proud records of topping Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of TU at Bachelor Level for five times.   

In spite of all its achievement without its own building, the college is not being able to offer its students with infrastructure facilities that suit to a Fine Arts institution. However, it envisions and commits to transform Sirjana College of Fine Arts to a model art college of international standard, well equipped with all the needed facilities and the physical structures that are suitable for higher learning in Fine Arts (Painting, Sculpture, Applied Arts, Music and Dance) including quality art education comparatively at a low fees, increase in extra curricular activities, symposiums, events etc., an access to the art education for big number of target audiences/stakeholders, sufficient space for undertaking various activities related to visual arts.
